Looking Inside into your own Beautiful Mind

Looking Inside into your own Beautiful Mind

What a relief…

I've remembered what I've forgotten and I've awakened to my inner world!

What a relief!

After countless years searching 'out there' in the big wide outer world I realise what I was really searching for was inside of me all along. Right here, in my own Beautiful Mind.

It’s got everything…

My mind is a sustained source of peace, happiness and joy. I‘d like to  share with you free flowing thoughts and mindful action. intuition, imagination and insight alongside everyday free and crystal clear thinking and feeling for you to reshape your inner world for outer bliss.

It’s all yours…

You can achieve this, it's just a matter of recognising, utilising and living from your inner world as opposed to trying to function 'out there' in a never sleeping 24/7 fast-becoming digital world.

Small wonder everyone experiences exhaustion, full-on and never ending living!

Who am I?

Hah! there's a question! Well, some  call me a transformation catalyst. I’ve taken a step away from Counselling, NLP, Reiki Healing, stress and wellbeing, body work and Dream Catching, because, well you see, I found what when I used my skills (I’ve over 10,000 hours with clients and, whoops a lot of years! I might be counselling - say - only to recognise that what my client needed was healing, or healing or body work and recognise that my client wanted to open up and explore their inner world through talking and dreaming.

Wisdom Sharing and Mentoring

I offer you signposts on your life journey.

Transformation through wisdom sharing and mentoring via donation.

If you find that you don’t fit into a system or box or tribe and you are open to new and different ways of being and becoming you may find wisdom sharing and mentoring for your way forward most appealing.

If you have a thought, question, quest or reflection, then why not talk with me, write or connect via zoom?

What is important is you. Your life journey, your beliefs, your thoughts, your truth, your inner world.

How you see your reality and how it is shaping up for you.

If you are questioning your life journey - those deep down questions we all have: who am I and why am I here? What is not working so well for me right now, I want more but that doesn't sit right when others are without… You know, those sort of questions, then please know you aren’t alone. Of course not! They’re experiences, questions, concerns and fears we all face along our human journey.

Live from the answer? 8 keys toward unlocking your inner world.

We’ve put together 8 keys toward unlocking your inner world giving you the outcomes you’ll want to achieve for accessing an unlimited source of peace, love and joy inside your own heart and mind.

Living in your Right Mind

Whilst there is no magic silver bullet, there are  many who would agree we all have  the ability to heal (become whole)  when we are in the right environment(s)++ together with following the right nutrition and in the right mind.

 Right mind includes

a) living without desire and non attachment. Accepting that nothing is personal: it is what it is

and

b) there is no separation+ There are no boundaries in the mind (only the ones we make up and we don’t, therefore live in duality. Moreover life is an illusion anyway!

Worth remembering: if you and I witnessed an accident we would recount different experiences. I will see, hear, feel things differently to you, my perception of will be different. Going to prove we all live in our own little worlds!

1 Rising above and beyond current linear and system thinking. Free from all fear in free flowing thoughts and mindful action.

2. Living authentically. You can achieve this by searching for truth. Your personal truth which is found by looking into your own heart.

3 Always look for the edge. As you breathe out breathe to the furthest edge and then more. See your breath evaporate as a ripple on a lake and then more.

4  Connectivity and compassion through a free flowing heart + mind = unlimited peace and happiness.  Heart and mind connectivity  grows compassion, gratitude, care and appreciation opening the gateway to intention healing/prayer/ for self and others

5 Separate facts from overwhelming feelings. Be aware of the effect of duality on your mind, there is no either/or… black/white. Look for and/and in harmony and maintain detachment without overwhelming feelings.

It helps to see life from the greatest perspective: exercise your mind in flexibility. Allow your mind to soar to great heights expanding to the greatest vision, conversely zooming into the minutest of detail.

6 Change mindset: regularly examine your beliefs and values because they will colour your behaviour and thoughts. What is stifling you from being in free flowing thoughts and mindful action where intention will manifest?

For example,  the linear perception of age : current system thinking puts people into boxes according to their age. However,  it’s surely your choice whether you accept this notion. If you think you are old you will be!

A mindset change will have a positive and flowing ripple effect  upon every single aspect of your  life.

Further examples:

Mindset approach to ill health. “I’ve been told I’m going to die…”

Mindset approach to retirement.

We will all move through these thresholds. Doesn’t it make sense to find where this world system thinking currently controls your mindset and change it?

Your mindset will always have a positive and flowing ripple effect upon every single aspect of your  life.

How do you know you’ve changed your mind set?

You’ll know. Recall in the past, when someone has said something to you and you’ve just felt, well, right? You know, you simply know, that is so right for you. So clear. So clean. A ripple effect throughout…

That’s right, rippling through a sea of consciousness.

By the way - THAT’S YOU

7 As above so below as within so without: change your physical earth/grounding/ connectivity   by activating  and integrating daily with sound,  light, creativity/expression and nature.

Every thing is conscious. Water is conscious, trees are conscious, flowers, every single thing. Dance with consciousness! Open yourself to happiness, joy and abundance.

8 Commitment to higher values Helping others, coming-into-unity with like minded and hearted fellow human beings to encourage support and share in the knowledge there is no separation.

We are all One established through connectivity and interconnection

In our fast paced world we often see things as linear.

We move to a then to b and c and so on.

But life isn’t like that. Life is like a game of snakes and ladders - up the ladder potter along for a while, and yes, you’ve guessed it, down a snake, a mighty long snake, resulting in repeating many of the same paths.

Similarly, you'll find one or more of these signposts become absorbed into your every day and you’ll latch onto them for a while. They ‘work quickly’ all is well.

However, you'll forget them, we all do, you might turn to them only in times of chaos or forget them completely in times of difficulty. Ironic really, because that’s the time of course when you will most need them! You’ll find yourself returning or rather remembering when all is calm in your outer world. Whatever the circumstance, rather than giving yourself a hard time simply accept all is what it is. It’s ok, you are walking your life path absorbing what you need to absorb and its absolutely perfect!

Life is beautiful we’re responsible for making it so complicated!

+ Separation : You’ll know when you are in separation (duality) because you’ll be experiencing fear, desire, attachment, panic, anxiety ….rather than happiness peace and compassion.

++ Environment : mind body spirit emotion intuition, heart and mind connectivity, job, relationship, where you live, culture, country, family

Imagine a circle - a circle of harmony - with like minded and hearted others

Where we all believe that everything has potential and is possible

Imagine being part of a group willing to support and encourage you to live in the present - on the inside - in your inner world, with like minded and hearted others.

Do you cut your mind off from your body?

Do you know how your body copes when you are stressed?

Can you cut off your mind from your body?

Can you cut off your mind from your body?

What happens to your body when you’re stressed?

I used to be guilty of separating my mind from my body ignoring everything and “getting on with it” to the detriment of my physical wellbeing.

I would literally cut my head off from my body. It’s easy really, it’s like putting your mind into a box. Shutting your self away. Do you know what I mean? Best of all it means I would Ignore any physical warning signals…

Trouble is if you continue to do this it can have a habit of backfiring, especially if you’re sick (see footnote at the end of this blog)

At the very least it will mean you’ll not have enough mental and emotional coping mechanisms when life gets tough. And it can mean you’ll experience aches and pains which eventually become chronic - back pain, stomach problems, head pain, and digestive issues leading to more serious illness. Of course, they are just the beginning. Believe me I know, I learned the hard way. But it doesn’t have to be for you.

All is not lost. You can easily integrate your body with mind benefitting from new and different ways of living life well even when life is tough.

Can you imagine what your body would say to you if you could hear it?

Here’s a typical letter from body to mind. It’s a synthesis of notes I’ve made from clients including my own’ body messages.’ Rest assured (and it’s not crazy I promise you) body can help you understand the impact on your physical wellbeing advising you a better way of managing life. Best of all you’ll be getting a tailor made diagnosis perfect for you!

FROM ME (BODY) TO YOU:

I’m tired. You don’t list to me enough. Even though you practise yoga, you run, you work out.

You never listen.

OK you do need mindfulness, you do need nature, you need to listen and sit and just be but that’s not good enough for me.

I took away your taste buds for you to listen

I suffered hip replacement, hysterectomy, colon cancer for you to listen.

You had it all

And thyroid and ulcer

Here’s what I want:

  • I WANT BODY FREEDOM

  • I want to run, I want to laugh. Be joyful and happy

  • It’s YOU. You who need to grieve. You who are stressed always running ahead of yourself. Always fixing. always fighting. You need to LET GO

  • I cannot keep up. I’m too tired.

  • YOU DON’T realise that I too have a brain. I’m strong. Look up Solar Plexus it’s the second brain.

  • You have a Stradivarius violin as a body and you don’t know how to play me. You are without a valuable string. Without me you aren’t in harmony. I bring you - as your body - I bring you mellow and joyful tones.

LISTEN to me. I know what I, therefore WE need.

  • Explore, discover and write and paint

  • Be free to do all of the above

  • Learn to meditate. Write and draw to express to feel to share…

  • Be curious. Be lively. Be easy fun and flexible. BE HAPPY PLAY Be spontaneous

  • I respond to nature to light and trees. You know that now. I am a flower I don’t need much ‘physical food’ and I do need the correctly balanced nutrients for me. SO LISTEN TO ME

Blueberries peanut butter chia seeds molasses what a breakfast! You’ll always know what’s right for me to eat when you listen to me because my energy level improve in minutes.

You must stop when I have fulfilment. Otherwise the energy produced from the food will need to be used to digest an overfull stomach which means your wellbeing and mental strength is depleted. See? Listen to me.

You know that more food to fill the stomach will never make you happy. Never defeat loneliness or dispel grief.

Together listening to me we will continually be in joyous harmony.

We, yes, WE are now in harmonious. We are as ONE

We are joyful together.

Playful open to the flow. In the zone.

We begin afresh from a strong foundation.

TOGETHER we move forward into the unknown . Yet it isn’t unknown. We process step by step. You will never get ahead of yourself. I promise for I am slower than your quick mind. I am your engine. i function on light, in nature. I have to be in harmony. I am of this earth. I am the vehicle for you on this earth. I need time and to process shock trauma anxiety. I react to people to environment to sound and to light.

I respond to light we all respond to light

I don’t need more physical food

You do need to listen to what I need

You’ll therefore experience greater energy and assistance from me

Solve your own Puzzle!

Solve your own Puzzle!

HOW CAN YOU INTEGRATE YOUR BODY AND MIND?

Begin with experiencing a fundamental step below first.

As you deepen your understanding allow body (by listening to it) to lead you to choosing any of the other steps. A measure will be how the relationship with your mind and your body deepens.

Good luck and enjoy! Do message or email me. Love to hear how you are getttng on with yourself. Remember it’s your life and your choice. Solve your own puzzle because you are worth it!

FUNDAMENTAL STEP

Step One

  1. Write to your body. Begin by sitting in a room or a space out in nature. When you are comfortable, look around and choose another space to be where you can move your physical body. Move to that space. Sit, breathe, relax and feel your physical body. Say to yourself I am now physical I am in body. When ready, look toward where you were previously sitting and begin writing a letter from body (where you are sitting) to you in the empty chair/space.

  2. Continue writing until ‘bod’y runs out of words. When finished, leave the paper and move back to where you were sitting. Relax once more into yourself. As you look across to where body was sitting begin writing a reply on another piece of paper.

  3. By the end of the exercise (you can go backwards and forwards as many timesa s you want. Or, come back to the process another time) you’ll have experienced your first dialogue with your body and deepened your understanding of how your physical body relates toward you.

Choose from (in listening to body it will tell you what it needs)

  1. Massage particularly aromatherapy massage. Learn to self massage. Do you even know how you like to be touched? What smells do you love? What is your favourite food? What do you love to look at? What sounds are music to your ear? Bathe yourself in all the things that excite your senses. Give yourself the gift of sensuality. Be slow and feel…

  2. Reiki. Receive it and learn how to do it for yourself. A fundamental understanding of your body, your mind and emotions will inevitably follow.

  3. Go swimming, have frequent baths, walk slowly and lightly on the ground and especially without shoes. Feel the wet earth, grass beneath your feet. Benefit from experiencing nature in its eloquence.

  4. Stretch in the morning. Watch any animal the first thing they do is stretch as they awaken.

  5. Hot and then cold showers. Finish with cold water. Get the body and circulation moving.

  6.  Laugh. The heart is wide open, the belly is filled with oxygen, and it is a complete cleanse for the energetic system. Laughter softens us and allows us to be more present and receptive. See every cell in your body filled with smiles, joy and laughter.

  7. Consider all your relationships - they are wonderful teachers. Surrendering can be a gift! Instead of subscribing to the mental thought wave that I am “losing my freedom” by being in relationship, focus on gains; you’ll learn about yourself - habits, fears, and desires by being with someone. Accept we are wired to be connected with other people and other people serve as a mirror.

The feminine aspect of relationship comes when two people pay attention to the relationship’s energy instead of rushing to label it. The feminine perspective gives us the yin, being, reflective skills a relationship needs to flourish. I recently overheard a couple on a first date talking about marriage and kids! Relationships have a frequency of their own, slowing down and tuning into that is a skill. We are often so in love with being in love we can only see our own dreams and desires, so our linear mind takes over wanting more and more, unable to stay in the (being) moment savouring the exquisiteness of two people together. No it wants to plan, organise, control and manage what happens next, often in line with dreams and desires you’ve harboured for years and years waiting just waiting for that ‘special someone to arrive.’

  8. We literally are what we eat. Body needs energy derived from food. Wholesome organic food. Listen to body. Experience when it is full and what it needs to have energy to use the mind or handle the physical load. Body’s nutritional needs change with the seasons and time of day. Your current level of harmony within your health and wellbeing plays a part in your nutritional needs. If its cold and damp and your health suffers don’t eat damp forming foods! Consider changing your routine, I promise your body will thank you. You’ll be playing your own Stradivarius violin.

  9. Alternate nostril breathing . This practice works directly with the right and left sides of the body and brain to cultivate harmony and mental clarity. It helps clear blocked energy streams in the body.

    Directions:
Sit comfortably with a tall spine. Place your left hand on your lap, palm face up or face down. With your right hand, fold down your index and middle finger so they are gently touching the centre of your palm. Place your ring finger on your left nostril and softly close the nostril. Take a deep slow breath in through your right nostril. When the breath is full, then gently switch and release your left nostril and close off your right nostril with your thumb. Close your eyes. Take a long, slow exhale through your left nostril. When the lungs are empty, keep the hand as it is and take another deep breath in through your left nostril. When you reach the top, repeat by switching to exhale through your right. Inhale again through your right nostril, switch fingers, and exhale through your left. Repeat. Five minutes per day is all you need. When you become confident count eight as you hold a nostril, let go for eight and hold for eight.

  10. Learn how to enter into your body. Sit in physical pain. Learn how to relax, release and let go.

  11. Meditate click here

Why cutting your head from your body isn’t wise when you’re sick or grieving.

If you’re trying to recover, through sickness or bereavement, cutting your head from your body only prolongs your healing.

I tried to shut off my mind after a bereavement. It took me five years to cry and a depression which lasted many more years until I finally integrated mind and body.

Here’s a typical example: recovering from illness or bereavement has a rather similar cycle where although your mind might acknowledge the diagnosis or death, your feelings cannot whilst body is tired, or sleepless or cannot stop ‘being busy and agitated.’

It doesn’t stop there either, even though the mind understand the situation; tries to organise or fix things, feelings may experience overwhelm; tears and emotion flaring up at a drop of a hat not to mention peculiar and fleeting aches or pains in your body.

One step forward then a few steps backward.

A bigger step forward then nothing. Little steps maybe? A movement by movement.

And so it goes on. Until body, mind and emotion are integrated. Everything flowing one way again…

Time is a great healer. yet time itself presses buttons.

In our 24/7 full on digital world it helps to share, offload, understand your own swinging processes. It makes sense, doesn’t it, to know your own body/mind? To help you in future ups and downs.

Friends, loved ones are invaluable. Yet they too, have their lives to lead. They can experience overload when loved ones are going through challenges.

If you need signposts, want to understand how you can take back your personal power, move through the ups and downs, put together your own personal ‘sat nav’ mapping out a way forward that works for you, please know you aren’t on your own if you don’t want to be…

How to Meditate: I'll handle tomorrow well if I stay in the Present

How to Meditate - I’ll handle tomorrow well if I stay in the present

How to Meditate - I’ll handle tomorrow well if I stay in the present

What is it like to be fully present?

"My perception, my understanding is greater. It's as though I can see round corners! There are many possibilities. I can see, I can absorb and I’m not overwhelmed. My mind is not busy, nor am I spaced out."

"My mind is still, like a clear pool. Perfectly crystal clear. I am fully present. Yes, it’s a gift to be in my present. I see that now. Everything is crystal clear. I can see all. Now I attend to my life so differently."

Essentially, I am talking about my Self. 'My real Self.' Devoid of all (chattering monkey) thoughts, the 'what ifs' and 'what else could I do?' and 'what else I need to do?'

I am talking about attending with one-pointed focus to the challenge in hand, in the present. Rather than living in the past (what haven't I done) or in the future (there's still so much to do).

I am attending to my present. And, yes, it might well be seen as a gift.

Contrary to what you might believe, we all have this gift. It just takes focus and commitment.

A One-point focussed mind: No Chattering Monkey Thoughts

"All thoughts of blame ( blaming someone or something else) are gone. I am in control. It is me. It is not about anyone else. I'm not pushing against any tide, any person and any system. I am not pre-empting problems ( the 'what if' syndrome) instead, I am attentive to all and everything in that specific moment. I slip through into another space. Another dimension. Yet I’m still functioning."

It took me a long long while before I could see the joke: that within the moment is my present. At that moment, I have everything. A cosmic gift!

So why can't I stay in my present? What is stopping me? Blocking me?

Ah ha! What is left is ME :-) My own stuff.

This can include some or all of the following: negative self-beliefs ( some of those I put there, some of them are from previous partners, experiences, jobs and childhood) and my own lingering fears and false beliefs, maybe  disappointment for unfulfilled dreams and expectation to reality, grief, anger…

Here's my experience: I found committing myself to me, giving myself the time and the space to move through my busy world into a space of stillness and learning to be 'in the moment' harrowing. I experienced it as challenging and frustrating too.

First it was harrowing because I couldn't do it and I didn't know how to begin. The thoughts (of which I believed I had no control) were enormous and overwhelming. They consumed me and my day and my behaviour toward others. And that was harrowing for me. I realised that to handle my thousands of thoughts I had to watch my emotions, my feelings. For often they would trigger thoughts and reactions.

Further into my quest to stay 'in the moment,' the challenges were fast and furious, often overwhelming. As I explored and practised, I found myself slipping into past patterns. Of course, it was great that I could see I was experiencing past patterns because

a) it meant I was observing myself

b) I was being honest with myself and

c) I could do something about it. I could ask myself "Do these past patterns serve me well now? And if not, I need to do something about them in order to move on." I was willing to move through my blocks. People who don't like change, please take note, look honestly at yourself and ask yourself whether not liking or not coping well with change is blocking you moving on in your life. This may well be your first 'pro-active' step to handling all of your tomorrows!

Often I would find myself even more overwhelmed than I was in the first place. I explain this now, by saying it is rather like a see-saw: there are days when one feels great, many small steps forward have been achieved. There are also days when nothing happens or, even worse, hundreds or even thousands of steps backwards are experienced. Eventually, the see-saw swinging reduces. It evens out, a plateau is reached. Calmness steps in. It is then one can appreciate stillness. And want to stay in it. In fact, to crave it. It is not frightening, it is loving, peaceful and so powerful, so very still and pregnant with potential.

I've talked about my journey to stay 'in the moment' as being harrowing and challenging. For me, there was frustration too. This is where although I'm on the path, would not want to be on any other path, and I can stay in the present some if not most of the time, I'm frustrated because I slip out of it! The frustration, I know, is there to tell me I need to go further, I haven't loosened enough of myself. I haven't freed up enough of the expectations I put on myself to just BE. And then, somehow it just happened...I lost the frustration. Instead, what do I now do? I smile. I'm not hard to myself anymore. I'm just me. And I don't have expectations of others. I've unlocked another door on my journey to come home to my Self. I simply laugh at myself. I can't begin to tell you how freeing that is! Yes, I continue to feel relaxed and move through the awareness that I've slipped from staying 'in the moment' and it is ok!

Remembering What You Have Forgotten

Please believe me when I say there is NO one way, one tool, one training that can ensure you will remain in the present.

Mindfulness is the current 'magical' tool. And will serve many very well. Yet staying in the moment requires all of our intelligences: we function on many levels through our mind, our body, our emotions, our intuition and our spiritual selves. We have five senses: sound, touch, taste, seeing and smell. All communicate information requiring us to absorb and integrate. In fact, a sound can transport us to another time, another place, as can a smell or a picture.

Paying attention and staying in the moment asks us to dissolve all. Asks us to detach, rather than block or hold onto thoughts, emotions, memories. Instead, to function with free flowing thoughts and mindful action.

The ability to:

  • relax

  • to ease tension in the body and the mind

  • to be able to step back, separate fact from emotion

  • learn to respond rather than react, are all part of the process of staying in the moment.

Just imagine what it could be like for you?

"It happens ...occasionally..it happens... up bubbles the gifts...an original thought...an ah ha moment....a bubble of pure bliss....of joy.....the right action to take 'a deep knowing' .....the one angle I had forgotten to look at. All the while I am relaxed, without tension. I might be getting on with my day, or attending slowly and methodically with great attention to the small things in life. What is gradually happening, is that I'm experiencing the deep still crystal clear waters are sustaining me...continually sustaining me....connecting me to everything in this world: to you, to me and beyond...an ineffable Source" '

"It makes living so much lighter. It makes work so much easier."

How does staying in the moment help me in my tomorrows?

Well, if it is not obvious by now... You'll be calm, clear and always resourceful. Might that help at work? Home? Generally, in your life?

OH and by the way, the added benefit that always comes from clearing out your thoughts and negativity is authenticity.

'When I loved my self enough I realised that only when I am feeling and acting lovingly did others respond lovingly.'

INTRODUCING YOU TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL MIND, BODY, SPIRIT WITH ANN TANMAYI

Dreaming my life into being

Many ancient cultures suggest we are awake when we are dreaming; they see our 'everyday reality waking moments' as being asleep whilst they maintain we are truly awake when we are dreaming!

    Meet my 'imaginary friend'

My parents used to call him my imaginary friend, I called him Nanka.

He was a young monk in a monastery high up in the Tibetan Himalayas. Although at the time I had no idea he was a monk, or where in the world he existed.  Each time I visited him - or did he visit me - anyway, I distinctly to this day, recall him always wearing a rough red woollen draped clothing around his body. He was continually hoiking one part or another of it back around his shoulders.  The most distinct thing I recall was his face because he was always cheerful and smiling, I couldn't stop myself from feeling happy in his presence.

He lived in a tall bleak stone building high up in the mountains. I know that for a fact because we would often hang out through the open slits for windows where he would point out to me the shapes in the snow. At this point, I need to say we were not physically speaking with each other. Rather, I intuitively knew what he was saying. Now how could that occur at that tender age?

It's probably best I let you know now that I’ve been searching since I was three years old.  You see even at that tender age,  I remembered an existence in Tibet, although I had no idea then, it was Tibet. It was just a place full of snow.

I would recall my tales to my parents describing Nanka in the land of snows. They humoured me.  It felt, at the time, I was living a parallel existence.

What I did experience every time I met with Nanka was such an inner peace and light-heartedness. I had a soul brother! He understood my frustration. Reflecting now, I see he was here to help me to retain a semblance of balance in my life.

You see, my first memory was in my pram (actually it wasn't my first memory, that was my physical birth  but perhaps that can wait for another blog and another time.) No, my memory in my pram was one of frustration. Here I am staring out of the pram unable to see much and feeling trapped. Of course, I was, I was wrapped up in blankets. I wanted to fly, to share my happiness. But as I grew into toddling and walking, began school (at the age of three by the way) I realised not many shared my happiness and joy.  To be fair, it was the late fifties; rationing had just ended, people were grey, tired and frightened. Here was I happy, bouncing, questioning everything, wanting to hug everything and everyone! I must have been a real pain in the ***!

I always knew I was missing something. Much to my parent’s frustration and two years on into my schooling, at the tender age of 5-ish, I would say to them “There has to be more to life than this!” This longing has been the fire that has burned in my heart all my life. My lifelong passion has been the search to remember what I’d forgotten and to come home.

    I was always asking why?

You see, to my mind, I wanted to live in a place where I could be free.  You can imagine why Nanka meant so much to me living in the wild in the land of snows where the sun always shone brightly.  For many years I had no idea what freedom meant, all I knew was that the life I was living was grey, serious, judgmental and cold. I wanted to live in a place of colour, light and happiness.

Nanka helped me to maintain my passion by showing me the spaces in-between. We began with the sky and the mountains. I learned how to look for shapes, to discern colour in the white mountains, see the pink, grey, silver and mauve slivers of light, watch the shadows morph into shape upon shape. It wasn't until many years later did I put all my observation and learning into practice, to enable me to look for answers, see beneath and beyond what people say and do. I refused to see anything at face value, to question and above all trust the symbols all around me, especially in nature. Finally of course to dream, to use my dream time to obtain answers.

Nanka 'my Tibetan' taught me humour and joy, to look for the funnier side of life.  A merciful gift to me as life began to take a grey turn, leading to me shutting away from my dream world entering instead a world of criticism, negativity and authority. Needless to say, I rebelled, continued to question, battled authority, as best as I could, given I was a young woman in a middle-class household dominated by stern parents.

    Dreaming my life into being

It can take courage to enter into our imagination and activate our dreams because they can seem to be counter-intuitive.  For me, living on the inside, paying attention to my own mind, my own sense of self, was perfectly natural. Consequently forty or so years later I began to remember what I had forgotten.

I had flashbacks of memories in my dreams and I acted upon them.

I learned how to remember what I had forgotten about being human through shamanic training, dream work and Reiki. I travelled to many distant countries, studied their culture and spiritual teachings.

Ancient symbols and texts would jump out to me. I'd find myself going into ecstasy, meditating for days, writing and writing. I experienced myself in, well, a different world.

You and I live in a world of our own

Yet this isn't strange really, because we are all in our own little world. Of course, we are!

For anyone reading this who might be disagreeing, reflect upon if you witnessed a car accident and the traffic police asked you to recall the accident.  Be rest assured your perception will be different from every other person! Our perspective is ours and ours alone.

    Isn't that so beautiful?

It's wise to continually remind yourself:

I am the pattern maker and breaker of my own reality
My potential and my future are dependent upon the choices I make right now.
How I think and feel directly affects my future.

Back to Nanka.  I met him fifty years later!  True! Well not him exactly and yes, I did meet him.  Let me explain.

I was enjoying an exhibition by the Tashi Lhunpo Monks who travel around the UK USA and Europe demonstrating their culture through dance, debates, mandalas and meditation. I was thumbing through their monks 'handbook' pics and biogs of the hundreds of monks at the monastery and I saw him! Initially, I I just knew I knew him, but I didn't know him - if you understand me!

A few days later the dreams began. It was Nanka! I remembered my experiences in the snows with the little Tibetan boy.  Of course, now he is a mature monk exiled in the Tashi Lhunpo monastery in Karnataka where they settled.

A couple of years later I had the opportunity to visit his monastery.

    Christmas 2016

His Holiness The Dalai Lama was giving Teachings for three weeks. I just had to go. Nanka (I won't give his Tibetan name here if you don't mind) was serving His Holiness. Despite that, I managed to give him a message. I asked him to say my name in the presence of His Holiness. Well something must have occurred, because even though there were 30,000 monks in attendance, I managed to sit less than 12 feet away from His Holiness for the duration of his teachings! Not only that but I was invited along with 12 other Westerners to serve His Holiness on the last day. Can you imagine? All I can say is that when I walked through the multitudes toward His Holiness as He sat inbetween two Buddhas all I could see was the sun. A huge yellow radiant orb! We were each holding ancient Tibetan scriptures covered in red silk, these books were hundreds and hundreds of years old. Afterwards Tibetans would want to touch me for good luck having held them. What a day! And not only that ...but as if to prove the connection two American ladies I met during the conference had the honour of meeting Nanka (he is part of the spiritual teachers training the monks) and His Holiness. As you can imagine I asked for a description. They said he was very serious and how everyone respected him very deeply. What a contrast to the happy laughing friend of yesteryear. Yet I felt a pang of identity because for so many years in my 'grey period' I became very serious, taking my duties as a teacher of Reiki, shamanic healing, Bach remedies counselling soberly. I wrote another note wishing him well, thanking him for meeting His Holiness and hoping he can now relax now that the year-long preparations were nearly over.

Along with 12 other westerners I had to walk down the aisle carrying these precious books toward The Dalai Lama sitting on the dais amidst the sacred chanting and horns blowing. awesome just awesome!

    Back to the moment

Dreams open us up to our imagination which is an inherent skill many of us use too sparingly. It was through my sleeping in my very early years I met Nanka. Many years later my dreams were fulfilled.

My life journey has been a quest to go home. I witnessed inner peace and light- heartedness in the Tibetan boy. I wanted that too.  Where people didn’t judge me, where I didn’t have to struggle with expectations from others, with people who did not or would not understand me. A world where people would open their eyes to opportunities, see the positive rather than the negative and go with the flow. I wanted to stop saying to myself that ‘there has to be more to life than this.’ And I wanted to move from living in a world where fighting, money and power seemed to take precedence over peace, harmony and oneness. I wanted a world where free flowing thoughts and mindful action led the way.

Instead of living outside of myself, where life would happen to me, I’ve learned how to live on the inside, in my own reality in my own Beautiful Mind where life flows and happens for me.

I had to change my relationship with myself: I’ve learned that the greatest relationship I’ll ever have is with myself,  and how it underpins everything.

I understand that I, alone, am the pattern maker and breaker of my existence. I have activated the whole of me for the whole of my life. And I live from that answer.

Would you like to live in your own Beautiful Mind?

Begin with building in reflection time

Move your attention from the outside world into your own inner world.

It can be easy to zig-zag through life, maybe find ourselves on paths chosen for us by others.  Nevertheless we can prevent this by building in space for reflection.

Reflection helps us review ‘Where we are now  (where we have been) and   where we are going.’

Reflection helps us to turn attention back onto our Beautiful Mind, our inner world, where we can remember what we might have forgotten about what makes our heart really sing.

Here are four reasons why reflection will help you:

    ·      It gives you space to step out of your everyday reality and look at a myriad of choices. After all, you are the pattern maker and breaker of your own destiny.

    ·      Reflection is vital whenever you find yourself at a crossroad or times of change.

    ·       As you move through the inevitable Gateways of Age 50th, 60th, 70th and so on ask yourself are you in touch with your dreams?

    ·      Whenever you feel unhappy, take yourself off to reflect.

Imagine how you’ll feel if you listen to your dreams and acted upon them? Where you're in touch with something or someone who helps you to make your heart sing?

Begin to look for the spaces inbetween trust in your inner world and learn how to RELEASE REFLECT and REPAIR
